The Schuler Access Initiative will substantially expand access for both undocumented students and Pell-eligible students to highly selective liberal arts colleges.
The Schuler Education Foundation will invest up to $500 million through the Schuler Access Initiative to substantially expand access for both undocumented students and Pell-eligible students to attend highly selective liberal arts colleges. With funds matched by our partner colleges the project will generate $1 billion in investment for this underserved population.
The Foundation will work with up to 20 highly selective liberal arts colleges to:
- Increase Undocumented and Pell Eligible Access: Increase the percentage of undocumented and Pell eligible low-income students attending each college. An incremental increase of 2% - 6% of the student body is the target range.
- Activate Partner College’s Donor Base: Double the impact of the investment by requiring colleges to generate 1:1 matching grants for undocumented and Pell eligible access.
Schuler Access Initiative Partners:
Welcome to our newest partner colleges:
College of the Holy Cross
Colleges will apply to be a partner in a competitive process. Selected colleges will differentiate themselves by the strength of their commitment to higher access rates and firm commitments from their donors to sustain low income student success.
Before requesting an application, college’s should review our Qualifying Questions document to ensure they are a good fit for the program. Qualifying colleges meet 80% of students’ financial need and have a donor base committed to investing in access for undocumented and Pell-eligible students, and are willing to collaborate with other partner colleges to share best practices regarding student support and retention.
Our next application round is expected to open in Summer 2023.
